The Art Fund has allocated up to £75,000 towards Art Fund Collect 2010, following the success of the initiative first launched by The Art Fund and Crafts Council in 2008. The initiative is designed to champion contemporary craft by challenging curators to acquire significant works of applied and decorative art by UK-based and international contemporary artists and makers at Collect 2010, organised by the Crafts Council at the Saatchi Gallery from 14 – 17 May 2010
By providing special access to the fair for selected curators, 100% grants for outstanding examples of contemporary craft, and a quick decision-making process, Art Fund Collect is designed to enable museums to compete with private collectors and raise the profile of contemporary craft collections in the UK.
A short-list of curators will be selected by the Art Fund Collect committee, and will be invited to select a single work for their museum’s collection at a special pre-VIP preview of Collect organised by the Crafts Council on Thursday 13th May 2010. The selected works will then be considered by the committee, who will allocate up to £75,000, with their decisions based on the curators’ initial proposals and the ambition of their subsequent choice at Collect.
